Transmasculine is a gender identity that describes people who are transgender, siding towards the masculine scale of the gender binary.
Throughout 2018-19, I traveled around the UK, photographing transmasculine people in their chosen “safe spaces”. These are places where they find refuge from society, reflect on their identity, and where they can unapologetically be themselves.
The people I photographed for this project were at various stages of their transition. Going through this myself, it was liberating to photograph others going through the same and exchanging stories of our experiences.
It is to note that not all transgender people medically transition. All trans people are vital & valid.
